To safeguard our kids, the Alliance for Safe Kids works with groups throughout Yorktown, including the Yorktown Police Department. The Yorktown PD conducts compliance checks as part of their efforts to keep our kids safe. Here’s the report from the most recent round of checks:
Yorktown Police Chief Daniel McMahon announced that during the evening hours of Thursday, March 18, 2010, members of his department utilized undercover, underage agents to conduct alcohol compliance checks at seven (7) licensed locations within the Town of Yorktown. The effort, sponsored by the Alliance for Safe Kids as part of a local, federally-funded study to combat underage drinking. According to police, all (7) of the establishments checked, refused to sell alcoholic beverages to the underage agent.
The following Yorktown businesses did not sell alcohol to the underage agent:
- Chestnut Shell RT 188 and Commerce Street
- DeCicco’s Market Place in Jefferson Valley
- Finnegan’s Bar and Grill
- Ginny’s Wine and Liquors
- New City Diner
- Shell 1821 Commerce Street
- and Shell Seven Eleven Route 202
Chief McMahon reports that these compliance checks are made possible through a Drug-Free Communities grant that was awarded to the Alliance for Safe Kids from the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Chief McMahon reports that these random, unannounced compliance checks will continue.
Next time you visit any of these businesses, please thank them for their efforts to keep our kids – and families – safe!
