The Jefferson Valley Mall is hosting the 26th annual Yorktown Community Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13.

The admission-free celebration, featuring exhibits, attractions, activities and entertainment for the whole family, will take place both inside and outside the mall.

“We are honored to be a part of this annual celebration which brings together an impressive assortment of local businesses, artisans and community partners from Yorktown,” said Alexa O’Rourke, director of marketing and business development at Jefferson Valley Mall. “This fun and educational event reflects Jefferson Valley Mall’s continued commitment to the community, providing the perfect backdrop with great family shopping and dining options.”

On the southern exterior of Jefferson Valley Mall, attendees will enjoy free dance and musical performances by local artists, carnival games, face painting and bounce houses, while learning about various community organizations.

The American Red Cross, SPARC (Special Program and Resource Connection) and Fieldhome are just a few of the groups that will be on hand with upcoming opportunities for members of the community to become involved.

Emergency services vehicles, including operational fire trucks, police cars, K-9 units and an antique fire engine show will be on display. Throughout the afternoon, Furniture Sharehouse will be collecting gently used furniture, such as kitchen tables and chairs, dressers, coffee tables, night stands, mirrors and lamps for families in need. In addition, the 10th Annual ASK Taste of Yorktown will allow guests to sample decadent delights from participating area restaurants, such as Jewel of Himalaya, Peter Pratts and Thyme.

Tickets for Taste of Yorktown are $10 and can be purchased at the event. The Alliance for Safe Kids is a Yorktown Heights charitable collaboration aimed at providing youth with the information and skills needed to make healthy decisions while emphasizing the need for families to protect and nurture their children by getting informed and getting involved. Proceeds from the event will be donated to benefit victims of the Nepali earthquake, via Jewel of Himalaya, as well as the Simon Youth Foundation.

Inside the mall, live musical performances by students from The Cortlandt School of Performing Arts will take place on the stage in Center Court. Plus, many of Jefferson Valley Mall’s popular retailers, including Macy’s, Sears, Yankee Candle, Things Remembered and Sterling Optical will host in-store events and giveaways.

“As one of the area’s leading family destinations, Jefferson Valley Mall is an ideal venue to host this community effort,” said Supervisor Michael Grace of Yorktown. “Last year, more than 5,000 people attended our Community Day celebration and we are looking forward to another incredibly successful event.”
