Yorktown’s community leader and volunteer Tricy Cushner has been nominated for the second annual Women of Distinction Hall of Fame.
“It is a tremendous honor to receive the Women of Distinction Award for a community that has been so receptive and caring from the first day my family arrived here in 2001,” Cushner said. “It is an absolute pleasure to be involved with so many Yorktown community members who enjoy the same labor of love necessary to keep each other safe and cared for.”
Created and hosted by Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I-Patterson), The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame was designed to honor outstanding women from throughout the 40th Senate District.
“It is my pleasure to accept Mrs. Cushner into my Women of Distinction Hall of Fame” Ball said in a statement. “I commend her for her selfless dedication to the community of Yorktown and I greatly look forward to the ceremony in September.”
Cushner said the proclamation includes a statement recognizing the ability to inspire others with compassion, diligence and commitment which has allowed her to “think of the many others who inspired and continue to inspire” her.
“I share this award with the tireless Yorktown volunteers who truly make our community a better place each and every day,” she said.
Yorktown Town Supervisor Michael Grace commended Cushner for her work for the community in working with children to raise awareness and help prevent the use of harmful drugs in our town.
“This is a great event that Senator Ball hosts every year to allow us to recognize great community members such as Tricy,” he said.
Cushner was born in Wurzburg, Germany and has been married for 20 years. She is the mother to three children. Cushner graduated from Columbia College in South Carolina with a degree in accounting.
She has donated much of her time back to the community, serving as the President and Treasurer of the Alliance for Safe Kids for the past seven years. She also serves on the Yorktown School District Council of PTSA’s. She is a Yorktown Girl Scout Mentor, participated in Relay for Life, and Drug Crisis in Our Backyard.
In 2012 she was awarded the Yorktown Lions community service award. She had also previously won the ‘Yorktown Dancing with the Stars’ award for a Relay for Life fundraiser.
The ceremony will be hosted on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2013 at the Putnam County Emergency Services Building in Carmel.
